About Shelf & Seam

Shelf & Seam is a personal style blog about affordable sustainable fashion, repeatable outfits, thrift-store finds, clothing repair, and minimalist skincare.

This site is for people who want to buy fewer things, wear what they own more often, and make better choices without turning their life into a performance.

I’m Sarah — a 28-year-old dental clinic receptionist in Seattle, a regular thrift-store browser, an enthusiastic outfit repeater, and someone who has definitely made a few bad DIY decisions with scissors. I’m not a fashion insider, a zero-waste icon, or a skincare chemist. I’m just a normal person trying to spend less, waste less, and get more use out of the things I bring home.

Most of what you’ll find here sits in two lanes:

Affordable sustainable fashion — thrift shopping, fabric checks, outfit repeating, small repairs, thrift flips, and honest takes on what’s actually worth buying

Minimalist skincare — empties, ingredient-checking habits, simple routines, and low-waste packaging choices that make sense in real life

Shelf & Seam is not about perfection. It’s about building better habits that you can actually keep.

That means:

  • buying secondhand when it makes sense

  • repeating outfits without shame

  • learning small repair skills instead of replacing everything

  • ignoring marketing that makes you feel behind

  • accepting that “better” is still better, even when it isn’t flawless

If you’ve ever stood in Goodwill holding a decent wool sweater and wondered if it was a great find or a future regret, you’re in the right place. If you’ve ever kept an empty moisturizer on your shelf because you still weren’t sure whether it was worth repurchasing, you’re also in the right place.

You don’t need a perfect closet. You need a closet you’ll actually wear.
